In 2010, the MWGA will sponsor the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program at the First Tee Facility on Belle Isle. The two (2) week sessions will be conducted by Julia Baldwin, an experienced golf instructor with the First Tee Program and PAL.
Established in 1989, the Girls Golf program was formed to connect girls between the ages seven to 17 with the game of golf. The initial purpose was to create a national program for young girls to learn the game and strengthen the camaraderie among participants in a fun and supportive environment. Today, Girls Golf has grown to nearly 200 sites across the United States with nearly 6,000 girls participating this year. The only initiative of its kind, Girls Golf is administered through a partnership between The LPGA Foundation and the USGA.
2010 sessions are scheduled for June 28 – July 8 or July 12 – July 22. Each session runs for 2 weeks in the evening and costs $20.00 for the 12 hours of instructions. A detailed lesson plan is listed on the 2010 LPGA-USGA Girls Registration Form below. This program is limited to 36 girls and registration closes June 23, 2010. This year a special golf event is planned with program participants and members of the MWGA. The date is Tuesday, July 20 at Dearborn Hill GC at 11:00 AM.
MWGA members are needed to help with the program and/ or participate in the Dearborn Hills event. For more information contact Francine Pegues at 313.469.7906 or at Pegues@mwgolf.org. This program is fun and rewarding and you will help a young girl learn the game of golf.
